About

A Hamden business incubator focusing on innovation and inclusivity, Borough496 focuses on three main areas: sustainability, workforce development, and micro-enterprise entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs can choose from memberships giving them access to the amenities of a 40,000-square-foot working space. Borough496 is owned and developed by the Hamden Economic Development Corporation.

Who’s it for?

Entrepreneurs and small business owners looking for a space to develop their ideas and interact with other like-minded individuals.

Mission

To offer opportunities for all citizens of our community to become financially successful, fulfill their professional aspirations and to build wealth for their families, with a commitment to physical sustainability as well as sustainable and inclusive business practices that can only be achieved by working with community-based organizations and people that have not historically had the opportunity for or access to the resources that are more traditionally offered.

Resources & Services

Memberships and Co-Working Spaces

Borough496 offers four membership tiers with access to public spaces, desks, or office spaces ranging from 650 to 4,200 square feet. All members receive complimentary business mentoring services from an on-site mentor, access to entrepreneurial and educational programs, and access to professionals in fields such as law, finance, insurance, marketing, and IT.

Micro-Enterprise Training and Lending

Regular courses are offered on topics such as business planning, financial literacy, marketing, lending requirements, cash flow analysis, social media, small business health and business insurance, and contracting. Borough496 has teamed up with local lenders to develop loan programs for members, and is looking to create a small grant program as well.

Workforce Development Programs

In a partnership with the public school system, Borough496 offers workforce development programs with a focus on fields where a college degree is not necessarily needed, including health care, manufacturing, green technology, solopreneurship, and environmental science.
